If you have a Hobby Lobby store near you they have a large selection of inexpensive unique home decor.
I went for the “beach” look in my room, but instead of wallpaper or paint, I just went for the beach colors (tan, blue, green, etc.) On one wall, i layered aqua blue tissue paper and used modge podge like stuff to glue it down. It looks really cute and fun. You could also do a mural type thing, which looks super cool.

Instead of wallpaper, try using the colors of the beach and decorate with white, beige, with light blue accents.
